Nursing School in Bay Area Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN)
The Oxman College Licensed Vocational Nursing program provides students with the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to enter the health care field as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Students develop knowledge and skills to enable them to give direct care to patients under the supervision of registered nurse in variety of health care settings including hospitals, physician's offices, clinics, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, urgent care, or with patients in private home settings. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN licensure examination. The training program is divided into three terms. Each term is comprised of designated subjects of studies that build upon each other, from simple to complex. Students progress sequentially through each term until all courses and terms have been successfully completed. The program uses the Orem's Self-Care Model for Nursing as a framework. The first term covers Nursing Fundamentals. During this period, students are introduced to the basic skills and concepts of patient care. Nursing skills and nursing process are emphasized to prepare the student to care for patients and meet their health care needs. The second term covers all aspects of Medical-Surgical nursing. This term is designed to prepare the student with the theoretical knowledge and clinical experience in the medical-surgical nursing. The subject content is divided according to body systems. An emphasis is placed on the responsibilities of the nurse in caring for clients with health deficit within the specific body system. Term three covers the nursing across the lifespan. The course content includes maternity, pediatrics, rehabilitative and gerontological nursing. In the final weeks of the term students are introduced to the Leadership and Supervision concepts in nursing. |
